Information we collect

Two sources: your message, and the site itself

We collect information you provide directly, such as your name and email address when you send a message through the contact form. We also collect limited technical information automatically when you visit, which may include your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and pages viewed.

We do not collect payment information, because no payment functionality exists on this site.

What arrives in a message

Your name, your email address, and whatever you choose to write. Nothing else is attached to it.

What the site records by itself

A coarse technical footprint: browser and device type, referring page, pages read, and the IP address your connection arrives from.

How information is used

Information you submit is used to respond to your message and to route it to the appropriate editor. Technical information is used to operate the site, understand which pages are read, and identify technical problems.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build profiles of individual readers. There is no advertising technology on this site and no reader-level targeting, which means the reading data we keep stays coarse on purpose.

In practice

  • A message about a trend note goes to the editor who wrote it.
  • Page counts tell us which guides readers return to, at the level of the page — not the person.
  • Error and load data help us fix slow or broken pages.

No newsletter list, no remarketing audience, no third-party ad tags.

The same rule for fabric and for files: hold only what the work actually needs.

Sharing and disclosure

Who sees your data, and who never does

We do not sell personal data. Information may be shared with service providers who host the site or deliver email on our behalf, and only to the extent needed to provide those services. We may disclose information where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of the site and its readers.

We do not share reader correspondence with brands or public relations contacts.

  • Hosting provider Keeps the site online
  • Email delivery service Carries our replies
  • Law enforcement Only when required
  • Brands and PR contacts Not shared

Retention

Contact messages are retained for as long as needed to handle the inquiry and to keep a record of corrections. Technical logs are retained for a limited period and then deleted or aggregated.

If you ask us to delete your correspondence, we will do so unless we are required to retain it.

Two kinds of record

Correspondence stays until the thread is closed and corrections are filed. Aggregate counts stay as numbers with no name attached.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to certain processing, and to request a portable copy of the information you provided.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

Cookies, children and changes

Cookies and similar technologies

The site uses cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality and, where accepted, for analytics. Details are set out in the Cookie Policy, which forms part of this document.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling essential cookies may affect how the site works.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will delete it.
